The recently
installed track surface took 6 months of construction time and had Buchanan's 2007 team schedule refined to an "away
only schedule" for all their meets. Yet, the results were well worth it. The
surface that was installed is called Mondo. This is the fastest running surface currently used in track & field
in the world. Their track surface has been used in EVERY single Olympic Games since Montreal in 1976 and they will be
used in Bejing in 2008. Most world records in track & field have been set on this type of surface. What makes this surface so special? The geometry behind it. Mondo is laid out in
a single direction so that embedded waffle pattern, which is at an angle, can give an equal and opposite reaction to the person
running on its surface. Take a look at the foot strike on their webpage. With such a great surface, it is no wonder why the West
Coast Relays is expected to grow considerably this year. More information about the surface can be found
at their website www.mondousa.com
